A step away from the traditional wardrobe basic, the burgundy suit offers a chance to wear a dark color but also be elegantly unique. Burgundy always has very rich and luxurious connotations, especially when introduced in formalwear. The color grew in popularity originally in smoking jackets, worn over a man’s tuxedo after dinner to keep the smoke and ash off of their black tie rig. Soon, smoking jackets evolved into dinner jackets and now many mills offer burgundy suiting and jacketing for suits and black tie.
