Midnight Navy Suit

The most serious of suits, the midnight navy suit takes its cues from formalwear and applies it to situations outside of black tie. “Midnight” navy is on the verge of black — in some light it may be indistinguishable. This “almost black but not quite” fabric makes it a versatile choice for conservative business dress and also evening events where a tuxedo isn’t required. We sometimes refer to it as “politician’s navy” for its seriousness and formality. While there are many ways to design a midnight navy suit, the classic 2-button front with notch lapels and jetted front pockets is an easy choice. Those wanting a more formal and less traditional approach might consider a single-button, peak lapel. We generally suggest black shoes with such a suit, however, burgundy and very dark brown footwear wouldn’t be out of place either for the daytime.
